Jumping

The training is going well lately! We've jumped 40 cm, and that's at least a start! At 60 cm we can start competing, and that's the plan at the end of this summer. Competing at 60 cm will only get him experience, but he needs lots of that before we can compete at a higher level!

Lesson

Dragon and I took a lesson! He had lots of energy and acted a little crazy to begin with, but afterwards, he was ver good. He's getting stronger muscles and getting more acceptance of the bit!
On the next lesson we'll jump again!

Yesterday I rode Dragon outside. He had lots of energy and couldn’t concentrate at all! Every new sound and every new thing he could see was way too interesting, but that’s how it is with young horses until they get used too it, but at least he had fun!

These are pictures of Dragon grazing!

Louise and Dragon!

Today we went for a ride together with Kirsten and her lazy pony Louise! Louise is a 17 years old haflinger and Kirsten rides her in the weekends and in holidays. We didn't bother putting on the saddles today, and I think the horses appreciated not having to wear them in the super hot weather!

Riding with Kirsten wasn't really the plan today. At first I made plans with some other friends at the stables, but 5 minutes before we were leaving they decided it was to risky to bring a young horse along with them because one of the horses had too much energy, and the girl riding that horse was afraid to fall of.. Dissapointing, but riding with Kirsten is much more fun anyways!

This is a picture from Bratsberg. The horses are tied up outside the stables while we're grooming them.

Spring

I haven't been writing for a long time, because I've been really busy preparing for exams and taking care of Dragon. Earlier I told you that I was moving Dragon to Bratsberg. He seems to like the new stables and he's getting along great with all the other horses!
The training is going well to. He's getting stronger and at practise yesterday, we jumped!

We've been at Bratsberg for over 3 weeks now, and in that short time all the snow has melted and spring has finally arrived in Norway too! The sky is blue and the sun is shining, and I actually got a sunburn yesterday! I put sun lotion on Dragons nose yesterday, but i forgot to put some on my own shoulders! I'll remember today! But im off to the stables!

Have a nice day, and use sun lotion!

Bestfriends

I have a bunny, and his name is Rocky. Sometimes I bring him to the stables, and him and Dragon are real good friends. It's nice to watch how carefull Dragon is around the little guy and how sweet they are when they share their food like brothers.

I think they will be friends for a long time!

Moving!

This weekend, I desided to move Dragon from the stable he's at now to Bratsberg Equestrian center. Bratsberg has 2 riding halls and many other facilities that we don't have now. There are trainers at the stables all the time there are ofte competitions being held at Bratsberg and the stable next door. I think Dragon will like the place a lot! I know I do!

This it a picture of bratberg in the summer!

Out in the sun

Riding outside in the sun at this time of year always makes me hope spring is right around the corner. This picture is taken by a friend on our way back to the stables. We were riding around the shops and houses and the horses got to see many new things. Ofcourse everything was scary for a young Dragon, and walking past trashcans and mailboxes is a thing he'll need to get used to. But I agree with him; trashcans and mailboxes can't be trusted!

Natural horsemanship

Trust, harmony and friendship are necessary when you're gonna train a horse. This video shows how important it is to listen to your horse and to not use forse.

Training natural horsemanship is both fun and rewarding. Using the language of Equus helps us understand eachother and work better toghether, but remember to listen!

The last couple of days I’ve been sick, so I haven’t been able to og to the stables since Saturday. My friends have been taking good care of Dragon, but I miss him! I’ll be going to the stables today, and I’ll tell you all about the fun after!

This is an old picture of Dragon. Look at the mess he made on the floor in just a few minutes!

I want to tell you what my plans are. Since Dragon's still young the plan is to train him slowly and bulid up some musles. To begin with I'll just ride him in the beautiful Norwegian forest we have right outside the stable doors and work with natural horsemanship. We had some help with that from Bente Fremo last week, because he's been a little difficult to other people when I'm not around. He has bin biting and threatenig people, and because of his size he can seem a bit scary..! We focused on leadership and she confirmed that he's a perfectly normal 4'year old, but of course he's testing everyone (he's a 650 kg baby, and everything must be explored!). Anyways.. Afterwards we will start taking lessons at a closeby stable with a riding hall and good trainers. If it goes well, we might start competing when he's ready!

Dragon

Once upon a time there was a Dragon from a far far away country..

Well, my Dragon isn't really a dragon (though you'd might think so, if you'd seen him fly), he's my horse. I got him on the 6th of December 2010. He's only 4 years old, but he's already the biggest horse in the stables we're at. Despite his huge size he can be as sweet and gentle as a little lamb.

In this blog, I'll tell you all about our training, progress and the fun we have together! Isn't he beautiful?
